DUSHANBE, March 20, 2013, Asia-Plus — Deputies of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament have unanimously endorsed a bill requiring amendments to the country’s Penal Code.
A regular sitting of the fourth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on March 20.
Presenting the bill, Abdujabbor Shirinov, head of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), noted that it was aimed “at toughening measures against money laundering and financial terrorism.”
“On an initiative of the team of financial auditors, United Nations financial operations Tajikistan’s banking system is currently under the special control regime and after endorsement of the mentioned amendments this regime will become a regular,” Tajik central bank head noted.
He further added that after adoption of the amendments all financial transactions involving more than 100,000 USD would automatically fall under Tajik central bank’s special monitoring.
