Japan supports enhancement of education sector in Vahdat Township

DUSHANBE, May 27, 2013, Asia-Plus — On May 24, Mr. Takaaki Komatsu, 3rd Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe visited the Vahdat Township and offered his congratulations to Mrs. Zebo Oymatova, Director of Federation of Karasu Women for the notable completion of the “Project for Provision of Educational Equipment to Secondary Schools in Vahdat Township.”  

According to Japan’s embassy in Dushanbe, the project was implemented under the framework of Japan’s Grant Assistance for the Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) with the amount of US$ 104, 844.

Lack of proper education equipment is considered as one of the major concerns at schools in Tajikistan. Many schools in Vahdat Township were built in the 1970s and schools have not been able to renew school equipment.  Many of these schools suffer from lack of chairs, desks and other necessary equipment which are essential for students to receive proper and adequate education.

The project has provide 5 schools, including School No 3 in Vahdat Center, School No 9 in Dusti village of Vahdatobod jamoat, School No 15 in Romit jamoat, School No 22 in Guliston village of Tilloi Safed jamoat, and School No 131 in Bahor village of Hoji Kataghan jamoat with new school equipment including 963 sets of desks and chairs along with a number of bookcases, chairs for teachers, blackboards and other needed equipment.  The aim of the project is to create favorable condition at schools and provide quality education that all students deserve.

Education is fundamental right for all human beings, and the importance of education should not be undervalued on any account. GGP regards education as a true asset to the development and the growth of the nation, and Japan will continue to provide support for the improvement of education sector in Tajikistan.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  Since 1996, GGP has extended more than US$ 23.2 million for 301 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan.
