KHUJAND, June 12, 2013, Asia-Plus — Crime rate has reportedly increased in Sughd province.

According to statistical data from the Statistics Agency’s office for Sughd province, some 2,000 crimes have been reported in the province over the first five months of this year, which was 357 cases or 21.8 percent more than in the same period last year.

Compared to January-May 2012 the number of serious crimes has reportedly increased by 34 cases or 9.5 percent over the first five months of this year, which was caused by the increase in the number of crimes in Ghonchi and Shahriston districts – 5.2 times, in Asht district – 2.7 times and in the city of Istaratvshan – 2.6 times.

One of the latest notorious murders was committed overnight June 1-2 in Bobojonghafurov district, where unidentified assailants killed all members of one family, including three minors, and seized approximately $30,000 worth of gold jewelries.
