DUSHANBE, July 10, 2013, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday July 9, Tajik Finance Minister, Safarali Najmiddinov, received Mr. Kazuya Sueta, Resident Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Tajikistan.

According to the Ministry of Finance (MoF)’s Secretariat, the sides exchanged views on state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and JICA.

A special attention was given to the process of implementation of joint programs and projects in sectors like energy, agriculture, construction, road building, health, education and social care.

In the course of the talks, Najmiddinov and Sueta reportedly also considered issues related to the financial model of the Central Asia South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade Project (CASA 1000) and construction of rail link connecting Tajikistan and neighboring countries.

The two also discussed the upcoming projects and programs and relations of Tajikistan with JICA, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Word bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other international financial institutions, the Secretariat said.  

The Japan International Cooperation Agency is an independent governmental agency that coordinates official development assistance (ODA) for the government of Japan. It is chartered with assisting economic and social growth in developing countries, and the promotion of international cooperation.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) started providing technical assistance to Tajikistan in 1991, and Representative Office of JICA in Tajikistan was established in 2006.
