DUSHANBE, July 10, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, who is currently on a working visit to Australia, today met in Melbourne with representatives of the Australian Trade Commission, or Austrade, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

In the course of the talks, Zarifi reportedly informed the Austrade representatives of Tajikistan and its investment opportunities.

Tajik minister outlined sectors like energy, mining and agriculture (farm produce processing and livestock farming), as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Australia.

He also offered to consider the possibility of organizing agricultural training courses for Tajik specialists, the MFA information department said.

The sides also considered issues related to organization of mutual visits of entrepreneurs of the two countries for establishment of cooperation in various spheres.

The Australian Trade Commission, or Austrade, is the Australian Government”s trade, investment and education promotion agency.  It is a statutory agency within the Foreign Affairs and Trade portfolio, with offices in overseas embassies and consulates, and representative arrangements in some other locations.  Through a global network of offices in nearly 50 countries, Austrade aims to assist Australian companies to connect with buyers in offshore markets, attract foreign direct investment into Australia, and promote Australia’s education sector internationally.
