DUSHANBE, July 17, 2013, Asia-Plus — The Dushanbe mayor’s office has allocated funds for purchase of 15 new trolleybuses and components for assemblage of 15 other trolleybuses.

Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor’s office, says 9.555 million have been allocated for the purchase of 15 trolleybuses and 9.408 million somoni have been allocated for the purchase of the components.

Trolleybuses will be assembled at the Dushanbe State Unitary Enterprise “Assemblage of Electrical “Transport and Bicycles,” Saidov said.

The trolleybuses and the components will be purchased from Russia’s trolleybus producer, Trolza.

Trolza is located in Engels, Saratov oblast.  In the Soviet era it was known as ZiU (Zavod imeni Uritzkogo, plant named after Moisei Uritskiy).  The enterprise was founded in Imperial Russia in 1868, but it began producing trolleybuses after 1951. ZiU/Trolza built over 65,000 trolleybus vehicles and continues this business now.  The most numerous models of ZiU production are MTB-82, ZiU-5, and ZiU-9.  All of them were exported to different countries of the world, including Argentina, Bulgaria, Greece, Mongolia, Hungary, Serbia etc.
