KHUJAND, August 12, 2013, Asia-Plus — Mr. M.R., member of the Republican Barristers’ Association, “Sipar,” faces the charge of fraud, according to the anticorruption agency’s office for the Sughd province.

M.R reportedly demanded 2,000 somoni from Ms. O.M. for assistance with instituting criminal proceedings against Ms. M.K.  At the same time, the barrister demanded 2,500 somoni from Ms. M.K. for release from liability.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against M.R. under the provisions of Article 247 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code.  Investigation into his case has already been completed and the case has moved to a court, the source added.

According to the statistical data from the anticorruption agency’s office for the Sughd, 47 cases of fraud have been reported in the province over the first six months of this year, which was 29 cases fewer than in the same period last year.
