KHUJAND, August 14, 2013, Asia-Plus — Dean of one of faculties at Khujand State University (Sughd province), O.M., faces charge of taking bribes.

According to the Sughd regional organized crime control department, O.M. was caught red-handed while taking 1,000 U.S. dollars from local resident O.B. for entering the university.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against O.M. under the provisions of Article 319 (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code — bribe-taking by a functionary, in person or through a mediator; an investigation is under way.

According to the statistical data from the anticorruption agency’s office in Sughd, 22 cases of bribe-taking by a functionary have been reported in the province over the first six months this year.
