KHUJAND, August 14, 2013, Asia-Plus — Underage girl from Panjakent, Sughd province has been arrested after trying to sell her newborn daughter.

According to the Sughd regional organized crime control department, the underage girl from Panjakent was arrested in Khujand on August 13 while selling her one-month-old child to local woman for 2,000 somoni.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the underage mother under the provisions of Article 167 (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code — buying and selling of minors; an investigation is under way.
