DUSHANBE, August 20, 2013, Asia-Plus  -Over 29 thousand tons of cement has been produced in the seven months of this year in Tajikistan, and the statistic does not include the data of the largest cement production company in the country – Tajikcement, which has not been working since the beginning of the year. This information was obtained by AP in the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Tajikistan.

According to the source, the volume is by 78 per cent or 12.7 thousand tons more than in the same period last year (without the Tajikcement data for the period). Meanwhile, Tajikcement has been standing idle since the beginning of the year due to cut of Uzbek gas cut off. Considering the Tajikcement production in Januar-July of last year, over 145 thousand tons of cement has been produced in the country. That is, standstill of the cement giant brought to decrease of cement production by 115 thousand tons in the country.

In the meantime, a new large cement production company has been built in the south of Tajikistan, which, is expected to start functioning in the near future. Joint Tajik-Chinese Company “Huaksin-Ghayur Cement” in Yavan with projected capacity of 1 million tons of cement in a year working on coal. $100 million has been spent for building and equipping the factory.

According to the Energy and Industry Ministry, currently there are eight cement production companies in Tajikistan. The largest of them is Tajikcement (projected capacity of 1 million tons per year), which is not functioning now.
