The board (Shuro) of Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament, discussed the next amendments proposed to the country’s tax code at a November 25 meeting, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov.

Muhammadato Sultonov, as spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the board also considered the bills on amendments proposed to the country’s laws on militisiya (police), state social insurance, education, the nation budget for 2013, as well the criminal code.

The board also considered the issues of ratification of a loan agreement between Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia on constructing and equipping secondary schools in Tajikistan and a grant agreement between Tajikistan and the International Development Association (IDA) on financing the health services improvement project in Tajikistan.

The Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan and the Saudi Development Fund signed a $25 million loan agreement to finance a government project focused on constructing and equipping secondary schools in Tajikistan.  The project aims to expand the Tajikistan public education system in order to meet its growing demand.  This project is part of the Tajikistan government’s initiative for developing its human resources.

The Minister of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan Safarali Najmiddinov and the World Bank Country Manager in Tajikistan Marsha Olive signed a grant agreement in Dushanbe on September 20, 2013 to finance the Tajikistan Health Services Improvement Project.  This US$19.8 million grant aims to improve maternal and child health outcomes by increasing the coverage and quality of basic primary health care services in rural health facilities of Tajikistan.  The new Project is being financed through a US$15 million grant from the International Development Association (IDA) and US$4.8 million from the multi-donor Health Results Innovation Trust Fund (HRITF).  The Government of Tajikistan contributed an additional US$3.20 million to the project.

All these issues have been tabled to the agenda of a sitting of the fifth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation that will take place on November 27, Sultonov said.
