QURGHON TEPPA, December 11, 2013, Asia-Plus — A military court of the Khatlon garrison has sentenced Atajon Nazhbuddinov, an officer at the State Committee for National Security (SCNS)’s office in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), to payment of a fine for setting fire to his mother’s house in Khatlon’s Vakhsh district.

“Atajon Nazhbuddinov, who is from the Vakhsh district by origin, faced charges under the provisions of two articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code: Article 255 (2) – deliberate destruction or damage of property; and Article 329 – threat against law enforcement officers and military personnel,” the Khatlon military court chairman Toir Iskandarov told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, Atajon Nazhbuddinov being in a state of drunkenness set fire to his mother’s house in the Vahdat jamoat of the Vakhsh district in Khatlon on August 6, 2013.  Damage caused by the fire was estimated at 3,000 somoni.

“Besides, Nazhbuddinov insulted firefighters who came to extinguish the fire,” Iskandarov said, noting that under the ruling handed down by the court should pay an 8,000 somoni fine.
