DUSHANBE, April 1, 2014, Asia-Plus — Dushanbe resident Shavkat Rahmonov, 74, died in Dushanbe’s hospital # 3 on March 31 of burns sustained in self-immolation.

Physicians say Shavkat Rahmonov had 65 percent of his body surface burned.

We will recall that the Interior Ministry’s website reported that an old man has tried to commit suicide by self-immolation near the “Varzish” (Sporting Accessories) shop in downtown Dushanbe on March 27.

Shavkat Rahmonov tried to set himself on fire by sprinkling diesel oil over his body.  He was shifted to a hospital where he was on critical condition.

Shavkat Rahmonov reportedly tried to kill himself following family conflict that arose after partition of dwelling house.

By court’s decision the apartment was divided equally between Shavkat Rahmonov and his daughter Niloufar Rahmonova, 40.

According to Niloufar, her father has suffered from mental disease over the past two years and he tried to commit suicide before as well, the Interior Ministry’s website says.
