DUSHANBE, April 4, 2014, Asia-Plus – On Friday April 4, the U.S. Embassy Civil Affairs Team presented the newly constructed Obi Terra Clinic to the people of Sari-Chasma Jamoat in the Shouroobod District of the Khatlon Province.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, the Obi Terra Clinic, which will provide basic medical care to one of the most remote areas in the Sari-Chasma Jamoat, was constructed for US$143,000 with funds from the Overseas Humanitarian, Disaster Assistance and Civil Aid (OHDACA) program.

Construction began in May 2013 and was completed in October.  Obi Terra and the surrounding villages are often isolated by inaccessible mountain roads, especially during the brutal winter months.

According to the one of the Obi Terra village leaders, Mr. Jourakhon Isoyev, the clinic will support not only the 102 families of the Obi Terra Village but also all of the people from the four surrounding villages.

Since 1992, the American people have provided over US$1 billion in programs and humanitarian aid that support Tajikistan’s democratic institutions, health care, education and economic growth.
