DUSHANBE, May 15, 2014, Asia-Plus – The second session of the Tajik-Chinese commission for agricultural cooperation took place in Dushanbe on April 14.

Chinese delegation was led by Vice Minister of Agriculture Niu Dun.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan (MoA), the sides discussed state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and China in the agrarian sector.

They reportedly outlined seed growing, plant cultivation, animal husbandry, gardening, and rice growing with use of the latest technologies as areas which could drive bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting participants also discussed the delivery of modern agricultural technologies and farming machines to Tajikistan, development of joint investment agriculture development projects and training of personnel for Tajikistan’s agrarian sector.

An official source at a MoA says two Chinese companies – Xinjiang Inhai and Tajik – Hai-Li (phonetically spelled) – have been working on leased lands in Tajikistan in recent years.

According to data of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and China last year valued at US$682 million.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to China estimated at US$86.3 million and Tajikistan’s imports from China worth US$595.8 million.
