DUSHANBE, June 3, 2014, Asia-Plus – On My 24 and June 2, the Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR JAPAN) organized activities at Dushanbe’s secondary schools ## 72 and 28 respectively, celebrating the completion of rehabilitation of the school buildings.

According to AAR JAPAN Resident Office in Tajikistan, they have renovated toilets, installed wheelchair ramps and grab bars in the hallways to make the schools more accessible for the students with physical disabilities.

Regardless of disabilities, students worked together on their dance, drama, poetry, and music performances.  AAR JAPAN hopes that these activities provided a platform to learn each student”s unique skills and appreciate differences.

This was part of the 8-month grant project on inclusive education for children with disabilities in Dushanbe with the financial assistance from the Japanese government.

Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR JAPAN) is a non-governmental organization aiming to provide emergency assistance, assistance to people with disabilities, mine action and assistance to HIV/AIDS.  Established in 1979 as an organization with no political, ideological, or religious affiliation, it aims to extend emergency and long term support to the people in need of help.  AAR JAPAN is currently active in Japan and other thirteen countries around the world.

AAR JAPAN has been implementing projects in Tajikistan since 2001, targeting on emergency assistance, medical and agricultural sectors for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
