DUSHANBE, June 4, 2014, Asia-Plus – Current daily generation of electricity in Tajikistan amounts to 43.711 million kWh ad more than 5 million kWh of this amount is exported, according to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources (MoEWR).

The northern Sughd province now receives 13.2 million kWh of electricity per day while the central and southern parts of the country now receive 25 million kWh of electricity per day.

The Norak hydroelectric power plant (HPP) provides the bulk of Tajikistan’s daily generation of electricity – 29.19 million KWh.

The Baipaza HPP currently generates 5.204 million kWh of electricity per day, Sagntuda-1 HPP – 3.864 kWh, Sangtuda-2 HPP – 1.691 million kWh, Golovnaya HPP – 2.237 million kWh, Perepadnaya HPP – 516,000 kWh, Qairoqqum HPP – 477,000 kWh, and Varzob Cascade HPPs – 365,000 kWh.

An official source at a MoEWR says that in summer period, Tajikistan supplies electric power surplus to neighboring Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Over last day, Tajikistan supplied 1.632 million kWh of electricity to Kyrgyzstan and 3.738 million kWh of electricity to Afghanistan.

An agreement on supply of electricity to Kyrgyzstan was signed in Dushanbe in mid-May.  Under this agreement, Tajikistan will supply 600 million kWh of electricity to Kyrgyzstan at the rate of 2 cents per 1 kWh.

Meanwhile, Tajik electricity is supplied to Afghanistan at the rate of 3.50 cents per 1 kWh.
