ISFARA, August 5, 2014, Asia-Plus — Senior security officials of the Tajik northern province of Sughd yesterday met with residents of the Khojai Alo village, Chorkuh jamoat in the Isfara district and Tajikistan’s Vorukh exclave inside Kyrgyzstan to discuss the cause of the incident that took place along the Tajik-Kyrgyz border on August 2, Sobirjon Rustamov, the head of social development and public relations department, Isfara mayor’s office told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, Subhon Miraliyev the deputy chief of the Interior Ministry’s office in Sughd and Muzaffar Pirakov, the head of the operation branch, the Main Border Guard Directorate’s office in Sughd attended the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, residents of Khojai Alo and Vorukh noted that the main reason for the last incident was lack of pasture lands and lack of access to pastures in Kyrgyz territory.  “Such conflicts will be inevitable until the issues of access to pastures in Kyrgyz territory and delineation of the border are solved,” residents of Tajik border villages noted.

It is already late summer, but the Tajik-Kyrgyz commission has not yet solved the issue of providing access for residents of Tajik border villages to pastures.

Meanwhile, Pirakov noted that the Tajik government was doing its best to solve the border issues.  He also called on residents of Tajik border villages to be patient and restrained.

We will recall that the incident took place between residents of the Tajik village of Khojai Alo and the Kyrgyz village of Aksai (Batken district) Saturday (August 2) afternoon.  According to the deputy head of the Chorkuh jamoat, Abdukhalil Sharipov, the incident took place because residents of Tajik villages do not have access to pastures.  Several cows of Tajik nationals have reportedly strayed into lands belonging to residents of the Kyrgyz village of Aksai.  “The cows and their owners were taken to the Aksai center, where the sides reached an agreement that Tajik nationals will pay compensation for the damage caused to residents of the Aksai village,” Sharipov said.
