Import of Russian oil products into Tajikistan for the first seven months of 2014 is not higher than 32 per cent of the total indicative balance, which was set at 1 million tons.
The government doubts that by the end of the year Tajikistan will physically be able to import the remaining volume of duty-free fuel.
Based on the inter-governmental agreement, concluded between Tajikistan and Russia in 2013, on Duty-Free Supplies of Oil Products from Russian to Tajikistan, if Tajikistan will not be able to import the indicative fuel balance, which is 1 million tons, the balance for duty-free supplies may be lowered for 2015.
As reported to Asia-Plus in the Energy and Water Resources Ministry of Tajikistan, 350 thousand 268 tons of oil products were imported into Tajikistan during January-July of 2014, which is 130.5 thousand tons more than for the same period in 2013. 90.2 per cent of 316 thousand tons of the total imported amount of fuel comes from Russia.
The Ministry notes: “Almost all the gasoline today comes from Russia. Diesel is also an important importing fuel product from Russia. The problems that rose with the supply of some types of fuel from Russia based on the indicative balance were partially resolved during the visit of the Tajik delegation to Moscow, and currently there are no problems with the supply of diesel.”
