DUSHANBE, February 5, 2015, Asia-Plus – On Thursday February 5, U.S. Embassy representatives and Shouroobod District Chairman Amirkhon Ikromzoda officiated the opening of Jilga School in the village of Jilga, Shouroobod District, in Khatlon Province.

Press release issued by the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, in particular, notes that the U.S. Government is proud to support the Tajikistan Government to increase access to primary education.  Since 2011, the U.S. Embassy has collaborated closely with Shouroobod district leaders to construct Jilga School in order to provide education opportunities to children from surrounding, remote villages.

Jilga School is now able to provide education to more than 350 children who otherwise would not have access to education.

The United States is a steadfast partner with the Tajik government in the education sector.  The new addition to Jilga School shows one of the numerous ways the U.S. Government and Shouroobod Department of Education work together to improve the quality of life and education of students in Shouroobod District.

Since 1992, the American people have provided over $1 billion in programs and humanitarian aid that support Tajikistan’s democratic institutions, health care, education and economic growth.
