DUSHANBE, March 13, 2015, Asia-Plus – Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe says Mr. Takashi Kamada, Ambassador of Japan to Tajikistan, on March 11 attended the two following handover ceremonies to mark the successful completion of the projects supported under the framework of Japan’s “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP)”.

The ceremony for “The Project for Construction of Additional Building for Secondary School No.166 in Boloshahr Village, Guliston Jamoat, Roudaki District” was reportedly held at School No.166 in Roudaki District.

The Government of Japan granted US$ 113,879 to the local government of Roudaki District for construction of a new school building.  With the additional building, the school can now accommodate twice as many students.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Mavjouda Boboyeva, Deputy Chairperson of Roudaki District, underlined the importance of this project for the local community and extended her deep gratitude for Japan’s support.

On the same day, Mr. Kamada visited Fayzobod District to congratulate the completion of “The Project for Construction of New School Building for School No.12 in Fathobod Village, Miskinobod Jamoat, Fayzobod District”, for which US$ 108,260 was granted.

Mr. Kamada was welcomed by Mr. Imomnazar Karimiyon, the chairperson of Fayzobod District, and the students of the school.  With the construction of a new school building, School No.12 is now able to accept more children, from grade 1 through 9, extending educational opportunity for more children.  Prior to the project implementation, the school could only accept students up to grade 4.

“Making a continuous effort to support grassroots projects has an indubitable impact to each local community” Mr. Kamada remarked in his speech.

The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support for creating a better society for all people and committed to working together with the people of Tajikistan.

“Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project” (GGP) is a scheme within Japan’s Official Development Assistance.  GGP in particular implements grassroots-level projects in various sectors throughout the Republic of Tajikistan.  Recipients of GGP grants include local governments, educational and medical institutions, and NGOs.  As of today, GGP has supported 341 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 27.6 million has been allocated since 1996.
