DUSHANBE, July 22, 2015, Asia-Plus — The University of Central Asia (UCA)’s campus in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) is scheduled to open in 2018.

According to the UCA, Phase I construction of UCA”s second campus in Khorog has begun.  It includes a three-storey academic building, a laboratory, a student life building and a three-winged dormitory and is scheduled to open in 2018. The Overseas Private Investment Corporation has committed financing for Phase I construction of the campus, alongside contributions from the Aga Khan Development Network and the Aga Khan Foundation, USA.

The executive design for UCA”s third campus in Tekeli, Kazakhstan, which is scheduled to open in 2020, was recently commissioned to Gensler (London), Dizajn Arkhitektura and AECOM.

Meanwhile, UCA’s first undergraduate campus is taking shape in Naryn, Kyrgyzstan.  Construction is on schedule for the campus to open in 2016. UCA’s centralized, phased strategy harnesses the talent of award-winning designers, a multi-national construction management team and specialized regional and local contractors.

Renowned architect Arata Isozaki and his firm, Isozaki, Aoki & Associates developed the campus design, which complements the beautiful mountain location on the banks of the Naryn River.  World-class firms AECOM, Gensler and Dizajn Arkhitektura lead daily design operations, Kyrgyz design consultants ensure that local legislation is complied with, while UCA manages the process to ensure quality and efficiency.

The University of Central Asia (UCA) was founded in 2000. The Presidents of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan and His Highness the Aga Khan signed the International Treaty and Charter establishing this secular and private University, which was ratified by the respective parliaments and registered with the United Nations. UCA was established to offer an internationally recognized standard of higher education in Central Asia and prepare graduates to contribute leadership, ideas and innovation to the economies and communities of the region.  UCA brings with it the commitment and partnership of the Aga Khan Development Network.
