Japan’s Government completes GGP project in Shahrinav district

DUSHANBE, July 24, 2015, Asia-Plus — On July 23, 2015, Mr. Takashi Kamada, Japan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan, yesterday visited Shahrinav district to attend a handover ceremony for “The Project for Improvement of Surgical Department of the Central Hospital in Shahrinav District.”

According to Japan’s embassy in Dushanbe, the total grant amount of 107,017 U.S. Dollars was provided to the local government of the Shahrinav district from the Government of Japan through the scheme of “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP)”.

Mr. Ismatullo Hokimzoda, the chairperson of the Shahrinav district, also attended the ceremony and expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their support.

Prior to the implementation of the project, the Surgical Department of the Central Hospital, which was established in 1990 and provides medical assistance to over 1,000 patients per year, was reportedly in a condition that needed improvement. In addition, improvement on the medical equipment was also needed.

With the successful project completion, now the building of the Surgical Department of the Central Hospital, including the water pipe system, has been entirely renovated, benefiting all the patients and workers of the hospital.  Also, now the department is equipped with the new medical equipment, including operation table, lung ventilator, electric coagulator and other medical equipment.

The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support and cooperation with the people of Tajikistan for creating positive impacts on various sectors throughout the country.

“Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project” (GGP) is a scheme within Japan’s Official Development Assistance. GGP in particular implements grassroots-level projects in various sectors throughout the Republic of Tajikistan.  Recipients of GGP grants include local governments, educational and medical institutions, and NGOs.  As of today, GGP has supported 341 projects in Tajikistan, for which US$ 27.6 million has been allocated since 1996.
