DUSHANBE, November 23, 2015, Asia-Plus – New Indian Ambassador to Tajikistan Biraja Prasad presented the copies of his credentials to Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov on November 21, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

The two reportedly discussed a number of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and India.

Tajik foreign minister expressed hope that new Indian ambassador will make contribution to further expansion and strengthening of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Prasad reportedly noted that cooperation with Tajikistan was one of priorities of India’s foreign policy and assured that he would take efforts to promote further expansion of cooperation between India and Tajikistan on India on the basis of principles of friendship and partnership.

Ambassador Biraja Prasad succeeded Ambassador Asith Bhattacharjee.

According to Indian media outlets, prior to his posting in Dushanbe, Biraja Prasad served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Madrid (Spain) from 2011 to 2015.  He also served at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) HQ and served as Under Secretary (Russia), Under Secretary (Europe West), Dy Secretary (Europe West) and then Director (Europe West) from 2007 to 2011.

Having served in Embassy of India, Moscow (2000 to 2002) as Second Secretary (Political) and further as Second Secretary (Political & Commercial) & HOC (2002-2004) in Embassy of India, Almaty (Kazakhstan) Biraja Prasad is a career diplomat with fair knowledge and experience of Central Asia.
