DUSHANBE, February 16, 2016, Asia-Plus – A group of representatives of Tajik opposition and political activists have released an appeal to the European Union.

In the appeal that was released through social networking websites yesterday, they express concern about the trial of leading members and activists of the banned Islamic Revival Party and detention of lawyers Buzurgmehr Yorov and Nouriddin Mahkamov, who were defending the IRP activists.

“Their relatives are under pressure and prohibited from commenting on their health state.  They even do not have the right to write anything about their relatives on the social networking websites,” the appeal said.

The opposition representatives call on the European Union to promote transparency of the IRP activists’ trial and “pay attention to information about confiscation of properties of children and other relatives of the jailed ex-Minister of Industry Zayd Saidov.”

The appeal is signed by Dodojon Atovullo, leader of the Congress of Constructive Forces of Tajikistan, Muhiddin Kabiri, leader of the banned Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan, Alim Sherzamonov, representative of the Social-Democratic Party of Tajikistan, and some others.
