DUSHANBE, May 3, 2016, Asia-Plus – An Investment Map drawn by the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest) includes 34 projects on construction of medium-sized and large hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) in Tajikistan. 

Twelve new hydropower plants with capacity of 100 MW and more are expected to be built on the Panj River, six hydropower plants with capacity of up to 210 MW will be built on the Zarafshon River, five hydropower plants will be built on the Obi Khingou River, four hydropower plants will be built on the Surkhob River, three hydropower plants will be built on the Vakhsh River, three hydropower plants will be built on the Mastchoh River, and one hydropower plant will be built on the Amu Darya River.

According to the Investment Map, the large hydropower plants will be built on the Panj River – Rushan HPP (3000 MW), Granitovyye Vorota (2,100 MW), Jumarj HPP (2,000 MW), Shirgovat HPP (1,900 MW), and Khostav HPP (1,200 MW).

According to data of Barqi Tojik (Tajikistan’s national integrated power company), eleven medium-sized and large HPPs now operate in Tajikistan.  Currently, Tajikistan’s largest hydropower plant is the Norak HPP with capacity of 2,700 MW. 

Besides, more than 200 small and mini hydropower plants now operate in Tajikistan, according to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources.    

Construction of the Roghun HPP with capacity of 3,600 MW is under way.
