DUSHANBE, May 13, 2016, Asia-Plus – On Friday May 13, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met here with Ms. Annette Dixon, World Bank Vice President for South Asia Region.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, the two sides discussed issues related to state and prospect of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the World Bank.
Emomali Rahmon, in particular, gave a high assessment to World Bank’s activities in Tajikistan and stressed that each project being implemented in the country jointly with the World Bank is an important step towards providing sustainable development of the country and raising well-being of the Tajik people under conditions of negative impact of external factors, including impact of global financial and economic crisis on Tajikistan’s economy.
In the course of the talks, Rahmon and Dixon also discussed a broad range of issues related to financial and technical resources of the Word Bank regarding mitigation of effects of natural disasters in Tajikistan and construction of riverbank protection works in Tajikistan, the Tajik president’s website said.
The World Bank’s active portfolio in Tajikistan includes 23 projects (including regional projects and Trust Funds) with a net commitment of US$355.63 million that aim to support economic growth through private sector development, while investing in better public services for people, such as education, health, municipal services and social protection.
