Presentation of the Dushanbe-Qurghon Teppa Road Project given in Dushanbe

Asia-Plus

DUSHANBE, May 26, 2016, Asia-Plus – Presentation of the Dushanbe-Qurghon Teppa Road Project was given in Dushanbe on May 24, according to the Ministry of Transport (MoT).

The presentation was reportedly given by representatives of Kocks Consult GmbH (Malta).

Tajik Transport Minister Sherali Ganjalzoda ordered relevant officials at a MoT to pay a special attention to the project’s technical parameters in order to avoid problems during the implementation of the project.

The estimated budget for implementation of this project is about 250 million U.S. dollars.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) notes that the proposed project will improve Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) corridors 2, 5 and 6 by improving a section of the 90-kilometer road section from Dushanbe to Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province. The project will also improve road safety through provision of funding for safe urban areas, strengthen road asset management through the provision of a road asset management system for the Ministry of Transport, and provide technical assistance relating to the development of logistics centers.

The Government of Tajikistan has reportedly requested project preparatory technical assistance (PPTA) from the ADB to identify, formulate and prepare a loan and/or grant for a 20-kilomter section of the 90-kilometer long Dushanbe to Qurghon Teppa road.  The PPTA assesses the technical, economic, financial, social, and environmental viability of the project and prepare required due diligence documents.

The main outcome of the PPTA is a feasibility study covering the entire corridor between Dushanbe and Qurghon Teppa.
