DUSHANBE, July 5, 2016, Asia-Plus — The national Tajik currency, the somoni, has lost 12.5 percent of its value against the dollar over the first six month of this year.

According to data of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), the rate on December 31, 2015 was 6.99 somoni to US$1.00, while on June 30, 2016, the rate was 7.868 somoni to US$1.00.

It should be noted that Tajikistan saw the sharp currency devaluation in January.  The somoni fell 12.2 percent against the dollar in January.

In February, the somoni lost only 0.3 percent of its value against the dollar — from 7.8424:1 to 7.8696:1.

During the next months, the somoni even became a little bit stronger against the dollar – by 0.12 percent (0.0016 somoni).

Meanwhile, the somoni has fallen 14.3 percent against the Euro (from 7.6389:1 to 8.7335:1) and 15.7 percent against the Russian ruble (from 0.1031:1 to 0.1193:1) over the same six-month period.

An official rate of the somoni against the dollar set by Tajik central bank decreased by 31.7 percent during the last year – from 5.3074:1 o January1, 2015 to 6.9902:1 on December 31, 2015.
