DUSHANBE, July 15, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan has earned approximately 82 million U.S. dollars from it 163,988 foreign visitors over the first six months.  The revenue from tourism reportedly rose nearly 12 percent compared to the same period last year.

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Akhtam Abdullozoda, the head of the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism under the Government of Tajikistan, noted on July 14 that 209,500 foreign nationals have visited Tajikistan in January-June this year.  163,800 of them have visited the country as tourists.

“Over the report period, Tajikistan has earned 81.994 million U.S. dollars from tourism, which was 8.3 million U.S. dollars more than in the same period last year,” Abdullozoda said.

He expressed hope that implementation of the national tourism development program designed for the period until 2020 will allow to raise the number of tourist visiting Tajikistan to one million.

“The main problem facing Tajikistan’s tourism sector is a low quality of service,” Tajik official said.

Over the same six-month period, mostly tourists from the CIS nations (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Uzbekistan and others) have visited Tajikistan.

Last year, Tajikistan attracted mainly tourists from the European Union countries and the United States.  413,834 tourists reportedly visited the country during the last year and Tajikistan earned 206.917 million dollars from tourism in 2015.
