DUSHANBE, August 2, 2016, Asia-Plus — Tajik journalists will be fined for ignorance of state language.

“In the future, Tajik journalists will be fined for violation of the Tajik language norms,” Ms. Gavhar Sharofzoda, the chairperson of the Committee on Language and Terminology under the Government of Tajikistan, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe in August 1.

According to her, a special commission has been set up at the Committee on Language and Terminology to monitor all publications in print and electronic media and TV and radio programs for observance of the Tajik language norms.

“If violations are revealed, a fine will be imposed on a journalist,” Ms. Sharofzoda noted.

She further added that representatives of the Committee on Language and Terminology would meet with journalists in the near future to discuss the subject of the use of state language in more detail.
