KHOROG, August 5, 2016, Asia-Plus — Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), will host an annual Pamir Invest Forum to promote investment and regional trade.

The Forum Pamir Invest-2016 that will take place in Khorog from August 23-24 is expected to bring together domestic and foreign investors and donors, heads and representatives of international organizations active in Tajikistan.  Local entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to present their business-concepts.

The forum is expected to focus on domestic and foreign investment opportunities, tourism and regional cooperation.

According to Association of Entrepreneurs and Mountain Farmers, Milal-Inter, which is one of organizers of the event, the main objective of the forum is in drawing attention of domestic and foreign investors to GBAO’s opportunities for development of tourism and problems existing in this field.

The forum is also intended to promote attraction of foreign investments, establishment of trade and economic cooperation with neighboring regions and foreign countries, use of existing opportunities and natural resources of the region, as well as expedite the implementation of the GBAO socioeconomic development programs.

The forum may give impulse to further expansion of cooperation between domestic and foreign companies and create new opportunities for involvement of local youth and women in entrepreneurship, the forum organizers said.

Sessions at the forum will cover how to effectively attract domestic and foreign investment to the region, reviving and promoting tourism in the region; and developing solutions to enhance regional trade and economic cooperation.

To-date, the forum organizing committee has reportedly received 70 business-projects from GBAO entrepreneurs.  

The forum is expected to end with signing of memorandums of cooperation and agreements on establishment of cooperation in various fields.    

The forum is organized by Milal-Inter, the local government of GBAO and the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management of Tajikistan.

The Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) is one of the mountainous regions of Tajikistan and it makes more than 43% of the land area of the country.  GBAO borders in the East—the Xinjiang province of China, in the West and South—the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, and in the North—the Osh province of Kyrgyzstan.  Within Tajikistan the region”s western border is with the districts subordinate to the center and the tip of its south-western finger (Darvoz district) borders on Khatlon province.
