Hot temperatures have increased the risk of landslides in the Tojikobod district, Rasht Valley (eastern Tajikistan).

Hot temperatures at the beginning of this week have caused melting of snow in the mountains that increases the risk of landslides in the villages of Fathobod and Kapali, according to the Committee for Emergency Situation and Civil Defense (CES) under the Government of Tajikistan.

Forty families have been evacuated to safer places, Ms. Umeda Yusupova, a spokeswoman for CES, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to her, two posts have been installed on both banks of the Shurak River to monitor the situation.

Torrential rain on July 13 caused increase in the level of water in the Hingob River that flooded the section of the Dushanbe-Sangvor road, Yusupova said.  The road has already been cleared and reopened for traffic.
