Relatives of the convicted lawyer learned today that a verdict was passed last week on the last criminal case brought against Buzurgmehr Yorov.For insulting the leader of the nation and fraud, Yorov was sentenced to three more years of imprisonment. In total, the lawyer will spend 28 years in prison.

According to Yorov's relatives, they were told that the verdict had already been pronounced, they were told only on August 23, although earlier they were informed that the last court session would be held today.

"We have not even been notified that a verdict has been announced in the court of the Firdavsi district last week," the relatives of the lawyer says.

Today Yorov's relatives learned that the lawyer was sentenced to 3 years in prison. The prosecutor, according to two articles on which Yorov was accused – fraud and insult to the leader of the nation, asked the court to sentence him to another 17 years in prison. Buzurgmehr Yorov was arrested in autumn 2015 on charges of "fraud" and "forgery of documents". The arrest followed after Yorov decided to defend the rights of the currently under investigation members of the Islamic Revival Party banned in the country

Later, the lawyer was accused of three more articles of the Criminal Code, in particular, "public calls for extremist activity".

On October 6 last year, the Dushanbe City Court found Buzurgmehr Yorov guilty of inciting national racial discord, fraud, public calls for violent change of the constitutional order, calls for extremist activities and forgery of documents. The lawyer was sentenced to 23 years in a strict-security colony.

In March of this year, the Supreme Court of Tajikistan sentenced Yorov to two more years of imprisonment for contempt of court because of his appearance in court on the first criminal case. Later, in relation to Buzurgmehr Yorov, two more criminal cases were opened – on charges of fraud and insult to the Leader of the Nation, the President of Tajikistan.

Thus, the total term for which lawyer Buzurgmehr Yorov was sentenced to is 28 years of imprisonment.
