We visited Maternity hospital #3 and Cargo Terminal at Dushanbe International Airport, which are good examples of successful cooperation between JICA and the Government of Tajikistan.

The Maternity Hospital No 3 received medical and laboratory equipment through JICA grant aid in 2014-2015. The main purpose of the support was to increase access of the population to quality health services in maternal and child healthcare.

The purpose of cargo terminal project is to upgrade cargo handling efficiency at Dushanbe International Airport, construct cargo terminal, provide cargo handling equipment, support in development of manuals related to cargo terminal. The Government of Japan provided JPY 1,914,000,000 (equivalent to 15.95 mil USD*) for Phase I and JPY 356,000,000 (equivalent to 3.04 mil USD *) for Phase II.

JICA intends to continue to provide all the necessary information for journalists in the future and get their professional opinion that is important for improving its activities in the country.

JICA began its technical cooperation with Tajikistan in 1993 by inviting Tajik officials to gain knowledge and experience on governance and macroeconomics development. At the end of March 2016, the total number of participants to JICA’s Knowledge Co-Creation Programs, formerly called the Training Programs, has exceeded 2000 people. JICA Office was established in 2006, and since then various Grant Financial Assistance and Technical Cooperation projects have been implemented more dynamically, aiming at improving living standard of Tajik people for the sectors such as agriculture and rural development, water supply, health, transport, energy, capacity building etc. JICA’s cumulative investment in all sectors amounted as 82.06 mln.
