The opening ceremony of the monument to Islam Karimov was attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the First President's wife Tatyana Karimova, gazeta.uz reports.

A monument to the First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov was opened in front of the Oksaroy residence in Tashkent on August 31. 

The ceremony was attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, First President's wife Tatyana Karimova, Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and his deputies, heads and employees of ministries and departments, representatives of parliament and the public.

The author of the monument is sculptor Ilkhom Zhabbarov, who is also the author of the Monument of Independence and Humanism on Mustakillik Square (Independence) and the monument to Amir Temur in the center of the capital.
