Tajik Center of Culture, Qal’ai Tojik, has opened in the Holy City of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Citing Tajik Embassy in Riyadh, Tajik state-run news agency Khovar reports the Center has been built in the style of a Tajik traditional building.

The inauguration ceremony of Qal’ai Tojik was attended by Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Zarobiddin Qosimi.

Qal’ai Tojik Center is reportedly a joint project of Tajik entrepreneur Abdurazzoq Saidov and Saudi businessman Riyaz Aby Habash.

According to Khovar, Abdurazzoq Saidov, an entrepreneur from the Hisor district, began construction of the Tajik Center of Culture in Mecca two years ago and some 60 Tajik nationals now work with the Center.

Mecca is the capital and administrative headquarters of the Makkah Region.  As the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad and the site of Muhammad's first revelation of the Quran, Mecca is regarded as the holiest city in the religion of Islam and a pilgrimage to it known as the Hajj is obligatory for all able Muslims.  Mecca is home to the Kaaba, by majority description Islam's holiest site, as well as being the direction of Muslim prayer.
