Uzbek president’s state visit to Tajikistan is seen as an important step to mend a tense and complicated relationship between the two countries.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev held tete-a-tete talks in Dushanbe on March 9.

After a meeting with his Tajik counterpart, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that they had reached positive results on all issues they had discussed.

“Today, no problems have remained that would impede development of the bilateral relationship,” Uzbek president stressed.

Tajik leader Emomali Rahmon, for his part, noted that Uzbek president’s state visit to Tajikistan was a fateful and historic event.

Rahmon expressed gratitude to his Uzbek counterpart for mutual understanding and support provided for joint initiatives.

After the meeting of the leaders of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in a one-on-one format, the talks have continued in an expanded format, with the participation of the members of the official delegations of the two countries.

Twenty-five documents, including an agreement on border delimitation and simplified border crossing, are expected to be signed during Mirziyoyev's visit to Dushanbe.
