President Emomali Rahmon has criticized prosecutors for poor control over the banking system.

His criticism came during an address to a meeting of representatives of prosecuting authorities that took place in Dushanbe on March 13 on the occasion of prosecutors’ professional holiday, which is marked in Tajikistan on March 14.

The head of state noted that the government takes all necessary measures to ensure stable work of the prosecuting authorities, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

Over the past five years, wages of prosecutors have been raised five times, Rahmon noted.

Meanwhile, cases of illegal land grabbing have increased in the country fifteen times over the last decade, the president stressed.

In his address to the meeting, Rahmon also touched upon the situation that had emerged in the country’s banking system.

“Because of shortsighted management and incompetence of their managers, some lending agencies have failed to pay out savings to their customers and return loans.  This situation emerged because of poor control by the National Bank of Tajikistan and the prosecuting authorities,” the head of state said.

Rahmon also called on prosecutors to intensify fight against terrorism and extremism.
