One person was killed on January 10 as a tanker truck carrying natural liquefied gas (NLG) from Sughd province to Dushanbe fell into precipice in the Ayni district (Sughd province), according to the Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CoES) under the Government of Tajikistan.

The accident reportedly took place near the village of Chore yesterday evening. The driver — resident of the Muminobod district (Khatlon province) Muhiddin Sharipov – perished in the accident.  HE apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

“Rescuers managed to prevent the tanker truck from exploding,” Ms. Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for CoES.

Despite torrential rain and snowfall in some mountain areas, most roads are open for traffic, Yusufi added.
