Tajik, Uzbek foreign ministers meet in Samarqand to discuss cooperation

Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin has met with his Uzbek counterpart Abdulaziz Kamilov in the Uzbek city of Samarqand on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting India-Central Asia Dialogue.   

The two discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

Muhriddin and Kamilov, in particular, discussed the draft agenda of joint events scheduled for this year Over the first eleven months of the last year, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and has reportedly risen 62 percent compared to the same period last year.

The first ministerial meeting of the India-Central Asia Dialogue took place in Samarqand on January 12-13 and Afghan foreign minister joined his Central Asian and Indian counterparts at this meeting.        

The sides reportedly discussed issues related to further expansion of political and economic cooperation between their countries both in bilateral and multilateral formats.  

A special attention was given to measures promoting development of mutual trade and expansion of cooperation in attracting investments, and innovative technologies increase as well as developing tourism.,  

They also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest, including the issue of establishment of peace and accord in Afghanistan. 

He meeting participants reportedly confirmed their readiness for cooperation in supporting economic reconstruction of Afghanistan.

The India-Central Dialogue meeting adopted a joint statement.
