Sughd governor Rajabboy Ahmadzoda has met with residents of Vorukh, Tajik exclave in Kyrgyz territory, at the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, a resident of Vorukh told Asia-Plus by phone Thursday afternoon.

According to him, members of local council and residents of the jamoat told the governor about the situation and constant clashes on the border.

They reportedly asked Ahmadzoda to help resolve the existing problems as soon as possible. Residents of Vorukh also told the Sughd governor that the Kyrgyz side wants to take the upper reaches of the Vorukh River under its control.

Governor of Kyrgyzstan’s Batken region reportedly also attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan’s MFA press center says Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov has had a phone conversation with his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin to discuss the matter.

Recall, the clashes broke out on March 13 after the Kyrgyz authorities attempted to resume work on constructing the Koktosh-Aksai-Tamdyk road.

Tajikistan insists the proposed path of the road cuts through disputed territory, and that the road should not be built until a deal is reached on the exact location of the border.
