Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday had a phone conversation with his Kyrgyz counterpart Sooronbai Jeenbekov to discuss border clash and the border situation between the two countries.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the presidents spoke in an effort to defuse the tensions.  They reportedly spoke about setting up a joint commission to launch impartial investigation into the border incident.

Tajik president’s website notes Kyrgyz president conveyed his deep condolences to the family and relatives of Tajik citizen Husein Hakimov who was killed in the March 13 border clash.

Meanwhile, the press service of the Kyrgyz president says Jeenbekov and Rahmon noted the need to create a joint commission to objectively investigate the incident and prevent similar situations in the future, as well as to intensify negotiations on the completion of the process of delimitation of the state border.

The presidents were of the opinion that the two peoples, having age-old good-neighborly relations, should live in peace and friendship, the report said.

Recall, two people have been killed and more than a dozen wounded in two days of clashes on the disputed border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
