Tajikistan is exploring the possibility of supplying surplus electricity to China’s Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR).  

To arrange the supply of electricity to China, Tajikistan plans to construct 550 kilometers of 500KV power transmission line to the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, the general plan for development of Tajikistan’s energy sector reads.  

In addition to existing power transmission lines to Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan the general plan includes exploration of several projects for construction of regional power transmission lines:

 

–           Plugging back into Central Asian power grid:

–           CASA 1000 Project;

–           Construction of 500KV power transmission line from Roghun to Peshawar is at the discussion stage;

–           Construction of a 550-kilomete 500KV power transmission line to the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region of China;

–           Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TUTAP) unified power system with maximum annual export of electricity from Tajikistan.  This project provides for construction of two additional lines to Afghanistan.  At this stage, only of them is under discussion.
