By president’s decrees issued on May 14 Tajikistan’s representatives to the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) were replaced, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

Tajikistan’s Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran Nizomiddin Zohidi was appointed  the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

The Economic Cooperation Organization or ECO is a Eurasian political and economic intergovernmental organization which was founded in 1985 in Tehran by the leaders of Iran, Pakistan and Turkey.  It provides a platform to discuss ways to improve development and promote trade and investment opportunities. The ECO is an ad hoc organization under the United Nations Charter (Chap. VIII).  The objective is to establish a single market for goods and services, much like the European Union.  ECO's secretariat and cultural department are located in Iran, its economic bureau is in Turkey and its scientific bureau is situated in Pakistan.  Tajikistan joined the Economic Cooperation Organization in 1992.

Tajikistan’s Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation Jamshed Homidov was appointed the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism.  It is the leading international organization in the field of tourism, which promotes tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability and offers leadership and support to the sector in advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide.  It encourages the implementation of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism to maximize the contribution of tourism to socio-economic development, while minimizing its possible negative impacts, and is committed to promoting tourism as an instrument in achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), geared towards reducing poverty and fostering sustainable development.  UNWTO’s headquarters are located in Madrid, Spain.  Tajikistan  was admitted to the United Nations World Tourism Organization in 2007.
