On Tuesday May 28, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met here with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the two sides discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.

In the course of the talks, Emomali Rahmon reportedly noted that further development of strategic partnership with Russia is one of priorities of Tajikistan’s foreign policy.   .

Rahmon and Shoigu also discussed issues related to military and technical cooperation as well as security cooperation between the two countries, the Tajik president’s website said. 

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has arrived in Dushanbe for talks with Tajikistan's political and military officials.

Russian media outlets cited Ms. Rossiyana Markovskaya, a spokeswoman for the Russian Defense Ministry, as saying, “Shoigu is expected to discuss the modernization of Tajikistan's armed forces and equipping Russia's 201st military base in Tajikistan with new weaponry.”
