Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to collaborate on jointly addressing terrorist and extremist activities.  Dushanbe and Tashkent have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Security Councils of the two countries.

Uzbekistan national news agency UzA says the document was inked by Uzbekistan Security Council Secretary Viktor Mahmoudov and his Tajik counterpart Mahmadali Vatanzoda in Tashkent on September 17 in the frameworks of bilateral consultations between the Security Councils of the two countries.

During the meeting, the two sides reportedly discussed issues related to improving practical mechanisms of cooperation in jointly addressing terrorist and extremist activities, providing border security and protecting economic interests along the mutual border.

The sides expressed readiness to strengthen legal foundation of bilateral relations between their countries.

They reportedly also elaborated joint initiatives and recommendations on further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in the field of security.

Besides the MoU, the sides signed a protocol providing specific measures on further expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the field of security, UzA said.

Recall, security services of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan signed an agreement on cooperation in combating international terrorism, controlling border and exchanging information on June 12, 2018 in Dushanbe.
