Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has signed the RT Law “On Fighting Terrorism” in new edition.

On Thursday January 2, President Emomali Rahmon signed a number of laws adopted by the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’ lower chamber of parliament) and seconded by the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament), according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The head of state, in particular, signed the laws on combating extremism in new edition, the procedure of preventing juvenile delinquency, and water users’ association.

The signed laws are reportedly aimed at contributing to development of social and economic sectors, entrepreneurship as well as prevention of juvenile crime, corruption and extremism in the country.

The law on fighting extremism in new edition has been worked out by the Prosecutor-General’s Office.

In his address to a joint meeting of both houses of parliament, Emomali Rahmon noted on December 26, 2018 that “the current law on fighting extremism does not meet requirements of the time, and it is necessary to work out a new law on combating extremism.”

The main objective of the initiative is to prevent involvement of citizens of the country in terrorist and extremist organizations and return Tajik nationals joining radical organizations abroad to homeland.

In the new law, major changes reportedly related to, first of all, international legal acts that had been adopted in this sphere recently, including resolutions of the UN Security Council and other international organizations.
