Today, all roads in Tajikistan are open for traffic, according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.

Ms. Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, says the Dushanbe-Khujand highway was cleared of snow during weekends.

Recall, the highway was temporarily closed for traffic on January 2 after a series of avalanches have blocked it in some places.  The avalanches reportedly occurred on the 55th, 62nd and 73rd kilometers of the highway.  150 drivers and passengers, whose vehicles got stuck in avalanches on the Dushanbe-Khujand highway, were evacuated by rescuers of the Emergencies Committee and employees of the Branch of Innovative Road Solutions (IRS) in Tajikistan, which operates the toll on this highway, on the same day.

The highway was reportedly cleared of snow during weekends and it is now open for traffic.

However, the Emergencies Committee warns that the risk of further avalanches and rockfalls remains high and advises people not to travel to mountain areas unnecessarily

In case of emergency situations or accidents, people can call the Emergencies Committee by the following phone numbers: 93 880 28 19; 221-91-19; 223-13-11.
