A young man has been killed in a snow slide in eastern Tajikistan, according to the Emergences Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.

“A tragedy took place on Tuesday afternoon in the Yasmand jamoat of the Rasht district,” Ms. Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to her, a 20-year-old resident of the Yasmand jamoat was hit by an avalanche when he was in the mountains.

Rescuers reportedly pulled the man out of snow, but he, unfortunately, died of his injuries on the way to a hospital.

Mountains cover 93 percent of Tajikistan, and avalanches and mudslides kill dozens of people every year.
